Spend a relaxing summer's day discovering the joy of Impressionist landscape painting. This friendly workshop is perfect for beginners, while also offering plenty to inspire those with more painting experience.
In the morning, in The Pottingshed (a charming event space at the Waterman) you'll explore the key techniques that define the Impressionist style, including expressive brushstrokes, broken colour and impasto, learning how these methods can bring light, movement and atmosphere to your paintings.
In the afternoon, weather permitting, we'll head to Midsummer Common to paint en plein air (outdoors), just as the Impressionist artists did. Working on canvas, you'll have the opportunity to observe the changing light and capture the beauty of the landscape with guidance and encouragement throughout.
By the end of the workshop, you'll have a deeper understanding of Impressionist painting techniques, a beautiful landscape painting to take home, and the confidence to continue exploring this expressive and rewarding style in your own time.

This course is a friendly introduction to the world of lino printing, perfect for beginners or anyone looking to try something new.
Over the six-week course, you'll learn a variety of lino printing techniques, including how to create texture, transfer your design, carve your block, and print by hand. As your confidence grows, you'll also explore ways to create striking multi-coloured prints and discover the beautiful art of chine collée – a traditional 19th-century printmaking technique that uses delicate papers to add colour, texture and depth to your work.
Working from your own ideas, sketches or favourite photographs, you'll be encouraged to create original artwork that reflects your individual style. With plenty of guidance and encouragement throughout, you'll develop your skills at your own pace in a relaxed and supportive environment.
By the end of the course, you'll have produced a collection of beautiful hand-printed artworks to take home, as well as your own carved lino block, which you can keep and use to create as many prints as you like long after the course has finished.

Discover the exciting world of printmaking in this hands-on course, perfect for beginners and anyone curious to explore a range of creative printmaking techniques.
Over the course, you'll be introduced to a variety of relief and intaglio processes, including monoprint, lino printing, drypoint etching and botanical printing. Through demonstrations, practical exercises and plenty of individual guidance, you'll discover the unique qualities of each technique while building your skills and confidence along the way.
Working from your own ideas, sketches or favourite photographs, you'll be encouraged to create original artwork and experiment with different materials, textures and printing methods. Whether you enjoy bold graphic designs or delicate, detailed images, you'll have the freedom to develop work that reflects your own interests and creative style.
By the end of the course, you'll have produced a beautiful collection of hand-printed artworks to take home, along with your own lino blocks and drypoint plates to keep. You'll be able to continue printing at home, revisit your favourite designs and keep exploring the wonderful possibilities of printmaking long after the course has finished.
